anibee: Congratulations! How do you feel about your victory?

Skye: I feel really flattered that the judges thought that I was good enough to be crowned first place because the competition was really tough. I was backstage watching the other contestants and I thought they were all really amazing and I was pretty shocked to win! I'm also grateful to my partner, Justin, who took time out of his busy work schedule to work through the song with me and meet up for multiple practices to get it right as well as all my friends who have so amazingly supportive and voted on Facebook so I could get the chance to perform on stage!

anibee: What motivated you to take part in the Ani-song contest?

Skye: I heard about the competition from a friend, KYQ (Q's note: Hey, that's me!), who suggested I try out because I used to regularly take part in anime singing competitions before I went overseas to study. I also thought it would be a good chance for me to get back into singing.

anibee: You were the only one to have performed with a partner on stage, and an unplugged/acoustic number to boot! What made you decide to do that?

Skye: Firstly, to be honest I've had really bad experiences with sound systems in the past. I seem to have the worst luck with them, even if they work perfectly fine for everyone else, when it gets to my turn, something will go wrong somewhere :( . Justin and I have been jamming together for a few years now, on and off as I was usually out of the country. We did a performance awhile back together and we really loved the results. I like having him play for me because I can do my own take on the song rather than just replicate what the original singer has done. Singing with a backing track tends to limit you to copying the original singer, or face the wrath of rabid fans who comment that you can't match up! While I truly do love the original versions and I want to preserve the integrity of the emotions and message, I want to do my own take on it too, and performing unplugged gives me that kind of freedom!

anibee: What made you decide on your song choice?

Skye: Konya mo hoshi ni dak arete is performed by a pretty famous J-Pop singer named Ayaka. I first came across her when she did the ending theme for the game Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, and I instantly fell in love with her voice and the way she sings - packed full of emotion! I heard this song when I was going through a pretty low period of my life, and the lyrics really spoke to me. The song is about looking back on a love lost and remembering all the precious moments that can never be again. I think it's a song that anyone who has ever been in love and fallen out of it can relate to so I really wanted to share it by performing the song.
