anibee's Ultimate Otaku Outing - Nakano Broadway!
Want to hunt for vintage items & toys, rare production materials, or perhaps even just to look at them? It doesn't always have to be a tedious, stuffy and otherwise unhygienic affair - especially when we're talking about Nakano Broadway!
Located right outside Nakano Station, you're greeted with a multitude of restaurants (like Lotteria Burger), bakeries, and even some famous joints like an official Fujiya Confectionary Outlet (the makers of world-famous Peko-chan).
Already a feast for the eyes (and stomach) - and we've not even entered the main event yet!
From random goodies to ultra-rare products, Nakano Broadway is quite literally a mecca for pop-culture goodness.
We can't possibly talk about pop-culture shopping in Japan without mentioning of course, Mandarake, which is here in full force as Mandarake Special - and they aren't kidding!
Filled to the absolute brim with all kinds of goodies, Mandarake's presence is littered over several floors of Nakano Broadway with several 'micro stores' that all specialise in a particular genre. Gundams, Anime, and of course for myself - Kamen Rider (Yay)!
Of course, there are dozens of other stores here that sell all sorts of products. Japanese to American, old to new; and with every store doing 買取/kaitori (Buy-backs), you're guaranteed a steady supply of reasonably priced rare stuff on a regular basis!
Buying toys isn't all there is to it though; there's also a mini museum that showcases a ton of super rare pop-culture items all the way back to the 60s. Everything there's for sale... at a massive price of course.
Lots of little showcase cabinets can be found all over the place too. These contain hard-to-get production materials that are up for auction, and include super-cool items like episode scripts from your favourite shows!
Whether you're searching for that super-duper-hard-to-get-item (I found mine!!), or like a little geekdom history lesson, take a trip to the Broadway!
