Word Condensing!

When speaking a language on a daily basis, one is bound to end up using certain words and phrases repeatedly. Whether out of convenience, speed, or sheer habit, we often come up with ways to condense and compact certain words down.

Japanese has its own fair share of such condensed words, often used in more casual situations amongst friends or familiar company. Here are a few of them:

Regular:

そうですね。

Sou desu ne
"I see"


Condensed:

そうっすね。

Soussu ne


Regular:

何ですか?

Nan desu ka?
"What is it?"

Condensed:

なんっすか?

Nannssuka?


Regular:

難しいです!

Muzukashii desu!
"This is difficult!"

Condensed:

むずっ!

Muzu!


Regular:

負けてしまいました。

Makete shimai mashita
"I lost"

Condensed:

負けちゃった。

Make cyatta
