Fighting Words! - Part 1: Before the fight!
Now don't get us wrong - violence is the last thing we'd condone!
But sometimes, knowing the right word to say at a specific point in a fight, be it real or fictional (we hope), can help improve the situation/atmosphere of the battle, and bag you serious style points too, making you sound totally awesome.
Before anything can proceed, it has to first begin! What you say before a fight can sometimes set the mood for the rest of the event, so don't take it lightly!
"Pleased to be your match today" (rough translation)
Works great if you want to be like - ‘polite' and 'formal' type fighters like Sakura (Street Fighter), Kasumi Todoh (King of Fighters) or Hinata (Naruto). A handy, all-purpose pre-fight phrase to make you seem really nice. Keyword being "seem".
Works great if you want to be like - 'determined' and semi-confident fighters like Ryu (Street Fighter) or Goku (Dragonball Z). Not to be confused with the fish.
Works great if you want to be like - 'cocky’ and 'arrogant' fighters like Ken Masters (Street Fighter), Kamen Rider Den-O and many more. Try not to lose after saying this - it'd make things a wee bit awkward...
"Let's go!!/Come on!!/random noises"
Works great if you want to be like - fighters who are either extremely showy, or completely bonkers! Ryo (King of Fighters), Jotaro (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), and literally dozens of characters have been known to utilise this multi-purpose phrase, often with many more 'ora's liberally thrown in. Either way you use it, you're bound to intimidate someone -or at least annoy them!
The battle's only just begun and there's still more to learn! Tune in next time, where we'll cover some handy phrases you can use during a fight, be it from guarding a heavy attack, or launching your ultimate finisher!
