Sometimes, the best way to do something is the MANLY way. This is no exception for the Japanese language, which has a large, specific body of words, tenses and verbs you can use if you ever need to add that bit of "OOMPFH" to your speech.

In general, a masculine, casual way of talking in Japanese comprises of sentences and words that are kept short, ending in a downwards tone. Here are a few examples.

Greetings
Normal

こんにちは!

Konnichiwa!

よう!

Yo!

オス!

Normal

Mata na/Jya na.

Prepare yourself (for a fight)!

Normal

覚悟しなさい!

Kakugo shinasai!

MANLY

覚悟しろ!

Kakugo shiro!

Out of my way!

Normal

Doite kudasai.

MANLY

*(This is rather rude!)

Normal

MANLY

With the right tone, you can make every phrase sound like you really MEAN it! Like everything else, there's always a proper time, place, and person to use such phrases and tones - you don't want to end up sounding like a gangster (that's for another article)!
