Today's Tip: Getting your costume done - the various ways!
What's the most important thing about cosplay besides finding what you want to do? Getting the costume *done* of course!
But like how there's more than one way to cook an egg; there are likewise, many different ways to get your costume done. Depending on your personal skill level, budget, costume complexity and of course, amount of time you have available, it's important to plan well before hand!
If you hunt around your neighbourhood (or ask for a reference from other cosplayers), you're bound to find a helpful tailor who can make your costume a reality!
This method tends to be expensive however, as tailor rates tend to vary greatly from each individual. For best results, get your own materials that you feel fit the character best, and don't forget to get lots of pictures for reference to minimise mistakes and miscommunication!
Many sites sell ready-made costumes these days, such as the ones we've mentioned here. If the character is generally popular, you can count on some resourceful store to have it already made and ready for sale at a decent price.
Costumes bought from website however, may not fit perfectly however, and often come out "baggy" looking or missing details. If you're picky, be ready to do some alterations of your own!
Sometimes if you want something done, you've got to do it yourself! Making your own costume can be extremely challenging for a new cosplayer, and often results in a lot of frustration.
However, many can attest to the fact that making your own costume is one of the most fun and rewarding parts of cosplay! Plus, you can personalise your outfit to fit yourself perfectly, add a specific feature you want, and basically let you "own" the character!
