Cosplay Quickies! #3
Today's Tip: Pick the right character for the right situation!
Not all cosplayable characters are created equal, and neither are all cosplay events!
If you have been cosplaying for a period of time, or are intending to, you've probably come to realise that half the challenge of the hobby comes simply from choosing what to wear, much less making the costume in the first place.
There are many things to consider when picking a costume to wear for an event:
- Distance: The further away the event, the further the distance you'd need to lug that costume around with you. While bringing your best get up to a faraway location is an awesome prospect, this puts your costume and props (if any) at greater risk of getting damaged in transit - doubling if it's overseas!
- Complexity: Bringing an elaborate costume with dozens of armoured bits and flashing lights is always a crowd pleaser, but a simple costume grants you more freedom to interact with others - and to actually enjoy the event!
- Context: A celebration of all things Japanese, or an all-inclusive pop culture bonanza? Either way, you might want to make sure that your costume is relevant to the event you're going for in some way for the best possible response from the crowd - or perhaps potentially draw more attention by being a character that no one expects to see!
