anibee's Top 5 Creepiest Characters for Cosplay!

Halloween's around the corner, it's time to get your creepy groove on!

While traditionally an American-based holiday, Halloween's made its way into other countries in one form or another, with Japan certainly being no exception.

With the occasion almost upon us, it's only appropriate to be helpful in our usual way, and compile a short little list of creepy characters you could cosplay as to scare the living daylights out of event-goers... or at least make them shift uncomfortably around their seats.

I'm not particularly one that gets too "terrified" of "obvious" scares like large monsters these days, so this list should be pretty novel.

#5 Sadako (The Ring)

Creep Factor - 7/10

Nothing like a classic character to kick things off. Iconic, effective, and generally also easy to cosplay as, Sadako's also the perfect embodiment of a creepy-Japanese-created-character. The only reason she's not higher on this list is due to the fact that most people are pretty used to her by now - although more recognition isn't necessarily a bad thing of course.

#4 Village Chief aka "The Kappa" (Arakawa Under the Bridge)

Creep Factor - 8/10

Maybe I'm just being a complete and utter mental - but there's just something about this guy that creeps me the @*#% out.

A self-proclaimed "620-year-old Kappa", this bloke appears in the equally strange anime, Arakawa Under the Bridge, where he pretty much darts about... being a guy who thinks he's a kappa.

Even though he's obviously a grown man. In a tight-fitting suit. That accentuates his...

You know what, I'll stop there.

#3 Hoshi (Arakawa Under the Bridge)

Creep Factor - 9/10

Are you starting to see a pattern here? Amidst all the weird characters in an immensely strange anime, Arakawa Under the Bridge's series of Kappa-men, Male-nuns, all lose out to the being known simply as 'Hoshi' (Star).

Literally... a man wearing a star on his head, you get a first glimpse of him in the show's ending, particularly "Akai Coat". While admittedly an awesome song, a good deal of it has Hoshi simply sitting there... playing his guitar... Â…while despite wearing a mask, HIS FACE SOMEHOW STILL MOVES AND EMOTES. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

#2 Kyubey (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

Creep Factor - 9.5/10

"What?! You're afraid of this little plush toy? Q, you big wimp, hahaha!"

Is what you might be thinking... if you've yet to familiarise yourself with the being known as Kyubey.

Hailing from the hit magical girl anime, Puella Magi Madoka Magica (a show that's just almost as eerie as our subject here), any fan knows that Kyubey here might look cute, he's anything BUT.

His pale white skin, his red, soul-piercing eyes, and that ever prevalent smile of his - all while he softly and seductively convinces you to "sign a contract" with him... while somehow knowing your deepest, darkest desires. All while staring at you with those eyes.

Those eyes.

THOSE EYES!!

#1 Gasai Yuno (Mirai Nikki)

Creep Factor - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH/10

Sure she might seem pretty, cute, and perhaps even kinda hot in that typical anime-girl fashion. But if "Overly Attached Girlfriend" (Google her up if you don't know) scared you - you ain't seen nothing yet.

Practically defining the word yandere (an obsessive, murderous girl), saying Yuno is "unstable" is like calling the ocean "wet".

Obsessed with Mirai Nikki protagonist, Yukiteru, Yuno does anything and everything to ensure that no one gets in the way of their "relationship", even almost killing his mother.

Hey, at least when she's not beheading another victim with a hatchet, she is still kinda pretty and can probably bake a nice cake.

...Right?
