anibee Predicts the Top 5 Most Cosplayed Characters!
So a big cosplay event is coming soon; you've been reading all the hype online, you know about the awesome guests that are coming down, and all your friends are making plans on what to do for the big day. But there's only one problem - what character do you cosplay as?!
Everyone knows that a cosplay event is that much more fun when you go in costume. Who can deny the kick one gets out of getting a chance to escape the dreariness of regular life and being able to pretend to be a different person for a change? Not to mention, all the attention from adoring fans, convention go-ers and photographers doesn't hurt either!
With the battle for attention from the crowd being waged amongst cosplayers, it's only natural that certain characters become more popular choices over others. Here is anibee's Top 5 Most Cosplayed Characters we predict that we'll see in this year's events! Do note that this list isn't in any particular order of merit and that it's merely for fun!
#5 Inori (Guilty Crown)
The female protagonist from Production I.G's latest hit Anime, Guilty Crown.
Guilty Crown, since its debut late 2011, has taken the Anime world by storm with its slick visuals and exciting story. However, it's got to be its character designs that are what have most fans bedazzled, with no character being more so than Inori. Her cute face, yet absolutely sexy outfit and gorgeous features are all factors that make for a great cosplay outfit that's guaranteed to turn heads (and camera lenses) to the successful cosplayer.
#4 Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier)
One of the main female protagonists and songstresses from 2008's Macross Frontier.
A character that demands good looks and stage presence, Sheryl Nome also has a deep back story and legions of fans to back her up - it's no wonder that she has long become a cosplayer staple for years now. As if that wasn't enough, this diva also has a myriad of outfits and appearances such as the sassy 'Black Bunny' or the elegant 'Diamond Crevasse' to choose from. Although a demanding and complicated cosplay regardless of the outfit, Sheryl Nome is both a great challenge to the cosplayer and a very photogenic choice that keeps fans coming back for more!
#3 Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
One of the main supporting characters from 2011's Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Although possessing an initially bright and colourful presentation not unlike previous 'magical girl' shows, Madoka both shocked, and won over legions of fans with its deep and dark story. Although an enigmatic, secondary character for most of the series, Homura soon gained lots of attention from cosplayers and fans with her beautiful, yet cold appearance. The simple, yet supremely stylish nature of her default uniform are brilliantly balanced off with her flashy shield armament make her an extremely popular choice for many.
#2 Panty & Stocking (Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt)
The dysfunctional pair of angel sisters from 2010's Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
This 2010 offering from Gainax (of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame) quickly gained a ton of attention with its unique American-influenced animation style, kickin' music - as well as being full of crude, suggestive jokes and parodies. The main attraction of the show was without a doubt, the loud and rude pair that is Panty and Stocking. With Panty's antics and Stocking's eccentric behaviour, the duo gained popularity amongst cosplayers and fans at an alarmingly fast rate. Flashy outfits, attention-grabbing poses (to say the least) and a hilarious show to back them up - these angels have something for everyone!
#1 Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid)
One of the many visual representation mascots of the series of singing synthesising software, Vocaloid.
Providing budding musicians both a face and voice for use in their personal compositions, the Vocaloids have been a dominant force amongst cosplayers and fans alike for many years now. Although many other character designs have spawned from the software, the most popular is undeniably the leek-wielding Hatsune Miku herself. Having been depicted in nearly countless numbers of different outfits and motifs, it's her default appearance that remains the most iconic and popular. With tons of accessories, and even full outfits available online, it's never been easier for a cosplayer to become this virtual diva. Conventions these days are almost guaranteed to have waves of Mikus - and it looks like it's not going to stop anytime soon!
