Ani-beauty Review: Pucker up with Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick!
I for one admit that I can never ever step out of the house without at least some minimal makeup (I don't want to go round scaring people). So putting on the basics like bb cream and eye liner is a must for me. Applying lipstick has never been an essential step in my make up regime unless I'm in the mood so that is pretty much once in a blue moon. That is why I don't experiment with different brands and types of lipstick and have stayed loyal to Calvin Kelvin's crème lipstick for as long as I could remember.
Recently, I've been itching for a change in my makeup regime and decided to try something different with my lips. After much research, I decided to try out Revlon's Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick due to its rave reviews and affordability.
Revlon's Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick can easily be found at any Watsons priced at only $17.90!! It is one of the cheaper lipsticks among other drug store brands. Affordable pricing - checked. I decided to go with Really Red as the colour looks really hot and sexy!
With my purchase completed, I was ready to try it on! Upon removing the packaging, I was pleasantly surprised that the lipstick stayed almost true to the shade I had seen through the cap before the packaging was removed. This is a plus point as most lipsticks always turn out a shade darker. The lipstick also looks smooth and non-drying and it feels that there's a tinge of orange mixed inside.
No matter what kind of lipsticks you're applying, it is important to exfoliate your lips first so that it isn't too dry. For lazy people like me, the easiest way is to use your toothbrush to gently brush your lips. Before applying Revlon's matte lipstick, I decided to put on a little lip balm so that my lips will not look so dry. I was under the impression that matte lipstick will only accentuate the dryness and cracks of your lips so that was one of my biggest concerns.
Upon the first application, I found that the lipstick glides smoothly across my lips although the bottom part of my lip was a little cakey. I was quite happy with how the colour turned out on the first application and I think it suits all skin tones. I think the winning point of Revlon's matte lipstick is that it's so pigmented; just one application gives you intense red lips!
I decided to apply another layer as I felt the colour did not spread evenly across my lips. I have to admit this is probably not a flaw of Revlon’s Matte Lipstick but rather, due to my inadequate skills of applying lipstick. I probably need more practice to get it right upon the first application. My lips did not look as dry as I expected after applying although in future I might apply a little more lip balm before the lipstick.
So far, Revlon's Matte Lipstick has passed my three tests - The intensity of the colour, its smooth formulation and strong pigmentation. Lastly I can finally test its staying power. I hate it when you have to touch up your lipstick after every meal or drink so I was really surprised the colour stayed on after my dinner!( I had crabs FYI) In fact it lasted up till 4 to 5 hours before I felt it was time for a touch up. Staying power - Passed!
I definitely need a lot more practice on how to apply a lipstick perfectly. Especially a matte lipstick! But once I've mastered it, I can't wait to try other shades from Revlon's Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick Range! Well, besides their lipsticks, have you checked out Lana's review on Revlon's Nail Art French Mix? I would say if you are looking for affordable drugstore brand but with products comparable to more costly cosmetics, Revlon's products might be worth a try.
