2013 is definitely proving to be a good year for movies! On the Hollywood side, movies like G.I Joe: Retaliation, Iron Man 3, Fast and Furious 6 and Man of Steel are showing on the big screen.

Movie releases Japan-side aren't being left out however, with titles like Hunter X Hunter The Movie: Phantom Rogue having already topped the charts since its release. The 2 movies I am going to introduce now are upcoming films this year!!

Both by Studio Ghibli, they are "Kaze Tachinu" and "Kaguya hime no Monogatari", which are directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata respectively. The last time that works of both directors released together are My Neighbour Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies in 1988.

Kaze Tachinu (meaning: The Wind Is Rising) is loosely based on Tatsuo Hori's short novel "Kaze Tachinu" written in 1936-1937.

Kaguya hime no Monogatari (meaning: The Tale of Princess Kaguya) is based on Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. It is Isao Takahata's first film in 14 years with his last film in 1999 "My Neighbors the Yamadas".

Kaze Tachinu will be scheduled for a summer release. Kaguya hime no Monogatari was meant to accompany Kaze Tachinu in the summer, but has been delayed to this autumn, with Studio Ghibli stating their desire to spend more time tweaking its quality.

Although the film was delayed for several months from expected release date, we can't exactly fault the studio as their intention was set for the benefits of the audience. I'm sure we wouldn't want a substandard film release right? With that being said, I'm sure both films are definitely worth waiting for this year!
