World-Vibe: Akihabara crowns its 3rd "Moe Queen"!

With its streets perpetually overflowing with shops selling anime, manga, and overall "moe" goodies all year, it only made sense to hold the ultimate "grand prix" of contests befitting of a place such as Akihabara - the Moe Queen Contest!
In its 3rd year, the contest pit dozens of lovely ladies from all over Japan, including areas such as Ikebukuro, Nakano, and of course, Akihabara, against one another in a grand event.
Held at Akihabara UDX, the contest put the girls in a series of talent-based challenges such as singing, dancing, and "self-PR", it was down to the final 12 contestants. In the end, it was 17-year old Airi, who ended up victorious!
Airi, who is in her 2nd year in High School, also works at maid café, AKIHABARA MUSIC CAFÉ&BAR 441.
"I had so much wonderful support from everyone - my customers, my fellow cast-members [at the café], and my manager. I could not have done it without them, and I am very thankful. Thank you!" an emotional Airi said.
Airi's popular act, including her song & dance performance of an original composition of her's, "Magical Twin Tail", won her a 100,000yen cash prize, as well as a contract for a debut CD single.
The event was attended by thousands of "Moe-fans", and had numerous Idol group units such as Alice 10-ban and Nabou Tofu@Nana as special guests.
"Every year, the level of the contestants keeps rising; it's really incredible! While all the girls were fabulous, Airi-chan was overwhelmingly the most popular!" Producer Takasu Motoji told the press.
