Hit manga, Silver Spoon (銀の匙) wins the Manga Taisho award!
Debuting in the 19th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shounen Sunday manga magazine in 6th April 2011, Silver Spoon has since sold over 1.5 million copies of both issues of its released tankoubon, bagging itself the coveted 'great prize' of Shogakukan's Manga Taisho award!
The manga, written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, released the first volume of its tankobon in July last year. The manga tells the story of Yugo Hachiken, a student who decides to go to a popular Agricultural High School in Hokkaido. He has no intention of pursuing a career in agriculture however; as he signed up merely thinking he would ace the course.
Silver Spoon continues to be massively popular in Japan, with its run in Weekly Shounen Sunday still on-going and the 3rd volume of its tankoubon being set for a mid-April release.
