SMAP came to Singapore and we didn't know it!

Bet you didn't know the sneaky lads of mega-boyband-that-needs-no-introduction SMAP were up to some mischief on our sunny shores recently. That's right, they were in Singapore in late February and early March to shoot their latest Softbank commercial. It's all out in the open now, and the results are gorgeous. One of the sequences show the SMAP boys decked in white strutting down to a party with a free flow of champagne and canapés, dancing girls by a swimming pool that reaches to infinity, pyrotechnics and smoke in the background, and a spectacular view to boot. Tip: check out their agog expressions. Where in Singapore was this? The Marina Bay Sands SkyPark, of course. At a breathtaking 57 storeys above ground, the SMAP boys clearly are not afraid of heights. Amusingly, the shot ends with a waterfront shot of the Marina Bay Sands in the background and what looks at first glance to be the Merlion spouting water in the foreground... but could it be the Softbank mascot dog?!

According to a fansite with an English translation of a Japanese press article, SMAP arrived in Singapore on Feb 28 and were chauffeured directly to their hotel in Marina Bay Sands. The shoot took place over the next two days at the SkyPark, and one of the Sands convention centres. On these two days, the SkyPark was closed to the public. Staff cited "a private party" as the reason.

We wonder what else SMAP did when they were here in Singapore... take a Duck Tour? Visit Sim Lim Square to stock up on gadgets? We can only guess!
